Daniel J. Weatheritt

Snowdog:Patchwork Northumberland

Daniel J. Weatheritt is an artist and designer based in Northumberland. Daniel studied Graphic Design at Northumbria University. He enjoys using varied media techniques, often combining traditional media with photography and digital colour production. Daniel often collaborates with many of the North East art and exhibition centres, and runs workshops in local schools and museums.

Initially I was contacted by Berwick Visual Arts to submit some design ideas for consideration. Great North Snowdogs represents everything I look for in a design project - a clever concept, creatively challenging and a brilliant opportunity to apply my illustration skills in a 3D context.

I think it's really good that the Snowdog sculptures are all part of one big trail across the North East. This coupled with artist sponsorship from key regional businesses could go a very long way to strengthen the creative infrastructure of our area. It's also fantastic that school children are involved and I can't wait to see their Snowdog 'Puppy' designs.

My design is intended as a showcase of the key landmarks and tourist attractions of Northumberland and also as a demonstration of the illustration techniques I use on a daily basis. I'm looking forward to seeing the range of finished designs and how artists have made the transition from a 2D idea to its representation in 3D.
