Es Tu Cosa

Inspired by legendary New York Latin-soul musician, Joe Bataan, with a simple message 'It's your thing'. The artist wanted to create the unescapable vibrancy and individualism that Bataan's music makes him feel. This Snowdog is a showman!

Kim Baxter from Hexham decided that she didn’t want a typical birthday present to mark turning 60, she wanted to own her own Snowdog. Her birthday wish came true when Kim and her husband Ian successfully bid on the colourful and vibrant Es Tu Cosa (It’s your thing) making the pawfect pooch Kim’s thing!

Kim said:

“We moved to Hexham from Milton Keynes in December 2015 as Ian is a huge Newcastle United Supporter and wanted to be closer to the city for the matches. Whilst Ian was at the football I would go shopping and explore. That was when we saw one of the Snowdogs in Eldon Square and we then found a few more around the city centre. I was instantly impressed and intrigued so went online and found out about the trail."

Kim and Ian didn’t do the trail but kept up to date with the dogs online. They also learnt more about St Oswald’s and how the money raised from Great North Snowdogs would benefit local families.

Kim continued:

“We bought tickets to the Farewell Event at Gateshead Stadium and had the opportunity to speak to a lot of people from the St Oswald’s team. It was my 60th Birthday in November 2016 and after seeing them all together I decided I’d like a dog. We took lots of photographs at the Farewell Event and once home I made a list of all the ones I liked. I think I picked out about ten altogether and there were a couple that we were both fans of. We went to the auction with our list and it was all very exciting. We’d never been to anything like that before, the atmosphere was amazing. Es Tu Cosa was near the beginning of the auction, I really liked his colouring and knew he would fit in perfectly with our colourful pictures at home, I also liked the fact that he wasn't season sensitive. I used to be a nursery teacher so the bright colours and simple striking designs appealed to me.

Kim continued:

“I started bidding and was so pleased to win Es Tu Cosa. I can honestly say I’ve never spent so much money just by waving my hand before!”

Es Tu Cosa, or Puppy, as Kim sometimes calls him is now settled into their hallway. He may go in the garden in the summertime but is lapping up the attention from being in such a prime position in their home:

“We absolutely love our Snowdog. Not many people in our village had heard of Great North Snowdogs and my family thought I was mad when we brought him home. People who come in are surprised by the size of him. Days after we moved into our house we were flooded by Storm Desmond so consequently we’ve had lots of builders in the property, they have all commented and taken photos. One man said his son’s school had designed a dog so he was delighted to see one close up. I don't think we’ll get flooded again but if we do, I hope he can swim as he’s too heavy to move quickly!

I smile every time I pass Es Tu Cosa, he was a fabulous 60th birthday present! The nice thing about owning my own Snowdog is, whilst I absolutely adore him, I know the money went to an extremely good cause. I also bought a few of the little porcelain dogs to share around the family so he now has pups!”
