A new one to add to the long list of Labrador crossbreeds… meet the Snowbrador, or black Snowbrador to be precise. According to artist Ruby, this would make the perfect combination - the handsome, delightful and well-loved Labrador breed and the perfectly formed, sweet and lovable Snowdog.

Jan North from Longhorsey and her partner Martin were thrilled to welcome a new addition to their family – the very cheeky looking Snowbrador. Snowbrador now lives in their dining room and although he cost Jan and Martin more than they initially budgeted he has been worth every penny.

Jan said:

“We did part of the Snowdog trail as a family and as soon as I found out the dogs were being auctioned off for St Oswald’s I was desperate to get one. I’m a big supporter of the Hospice and have donated in the past. Back in 2014 my mum had a brain tumour so we were keen to get her into St Oswald’s as we knew she would be well cared for, be able to have a bath and be comfortable but unfortunately she didn’t live long enough to access the inpatient unit. My partner lost a loved one in St Oswald’s so he is very much aware of the excellent care they provide. Therefore, we were both keen to support the Snowdog campaign.”

When Jan and Martin attended the auction they had planned to bid on the Snowdogs and had a budget in mind. However, the excitement of the event and the fact that the Snowdogs were very popular resulted in Jan paying over what she originally had in mind. Jan explains:

“When I went along to the auction I knew I needed to go home with my own Snowdog. I didn’t have a particular dog in mind and bid on nearly all of them! I had a set budget but thankfully Martin agreed to go halves with me which enabled me to get Snowbrador. Since Snowbrador moved in I’ve had very mixed reactions. The majority of people weren’t surprised that I bought a dog but are a bit shocked by how much space he takes up in my dining room!”

Jan finished:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the whole snowdog experience and I’ve now really got the bug! I can’t wait for another trail to take place so I can buy another sculpture. At the moment I’m making do with Snowbrador and my family of the mini ceramic pups that I bought before the auction. St Oswald’s is such a good cause to support and I’m so excited for the next trail.”
